Sunrise Smoothie

There's nothing better than starting your day with a smoothie that makes you feel as refreshed as it tastes. This Sunrise Smoothie has the perfect combination of orange, berry, and ginger, a hidden veggie.

I'm gonna start this post off in the most ordinary way: commenting on the weather. I can't not. It's early April now, and while everything going on in the world isn't exactly great, I'm at least joyful that we've had sunshine and consistently mild temperatures.

Spring is a refreshing time of year, and I'm looking forward to all kinds of things... that I can do from inside our apartment. Like getting our balcony prettied up with some new patio chairs that arrive in the mail next week, some potted flowers, and a small balcony-based vegetable garden. I'm a total amateur, but completely excited about it.

Anyways, something that's just as refreshing and bright as the Springtime is today's smoothie recipe. I'm not exactly sure why I've decided to call it my 'Sunrise' Smoothie, but I think it's because we've been having it bright and early in the morning. It's been one of my go-to's for a few weeks now, and Sean loves it too. The combination of orange, berry, and ginger gives it such a fresh, zesty taste. And while it's predominantly fruits, there is some sneaky cauliflower mixed in!

How to Make a Sunrise Smoothie

To make this smoothie you'll need a few simple ingredients:

  • Frozen strawberries and/or raspberries (I like a combination of both)

  • Navel orange

  • Banana

  • Frozen cauliflower

  • Fresh ginger

  • Hemp seeds

  • Chia seeds

  • Water

The cauliflower doesn't add much in terms of flavour, instead it helps add a bit of bulk, creaminess, and just general veggie goodness. You can buy frozen cauliflower in the freezer section of your grocery store, or simply blanch (boil quickly) fresh cauliflower and then freeze it yourself.

I personally love ginger and enjoy a good 1-2 inch chunk of it in this recipe. But feel free to adjust the amount to your liking. It adds a great punch!
