Minty Lemonade

This Minty Lemonade recipe has been a refreshing go-to of ours this summer. It's light, zesty, and has the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and mint!

This Minty Lemonade has quickly become my new favourite summer drink. It's nothing fancy, I assure you, but that's the beauty of lemonade, isn't it? A squeeze of lemon, a coupla' ice cubes, a dash of sweetness, and you're good to go. Although this one has some fresh mint leaves muddled into it just for fun (and because it's really good - thank you to Sean's wonderful mom for the inspiration a few weekends ago!)

If you watched my recent What I Eat In A Day featuring Sean and some of the meals we enjoy eating, you'd have seen me do a terrible job of making this lemonade on camera. Well folks, that's the one I'm sharing with you here on the blog today. Except I promise I'll share the right ingredients and measurements ;-)

Benefits of Homemade Lemonade

Here's the thing when it comes to drinks like lemonade. Classic mixes you find at the store, such as those found in cartons or frozen blocks, are chock-full of sugar and sometimes artificial flavours. Now don't get me wrong, we're sweetening this lemonade, but it's nice to be able to adjust the sweetness to your liking and to use a sweetener that's a little bit better for you (in this case, maple syrup). You can also use honey or stevia for this recipe.

Furthermore, this lemonade is made with real lemon, of course. No simulated flavours here, my friends. Lemon is a great source of essential vitamins and helps support digestion. Mint is also a digestion-friendly herb that's fresh, lively, and adds a really nice flavour to this drink.

You only need four ingredients for this Minty Lemonade:

  1. Water (filtered, preferably) and ice

  2. Lemons

  3. Fresh mint leaves

  4. Maple syrup

The recipe below is for just one serving, so if you want more (say, a jug for a group of people) simply adjust the measurements as needed. And by the way - this recipe is hardly exact. Add more lemon, sweetener, or mint to taste if needed!

Minty Lemonade

A refreshing homemade lemonade made with muddled mint and maple syrup.
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups water (a medium-sized glass will do)

  • 1/2 lemon

  • 2-3 fresh mint leaves

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey

  • 3 ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Add lemon juice, maple syrup, and mint leaves to glass. Muddle lightly with wooden spoon or muddler.

  2. Pour water into glass and add ice cubes.

  3. Enjoy!

Notes

Double, triple, or quadruple this recipe if serving to a crowd. A large lemonade jug will work well for entertaining!
