Nothing beats a quick and easy smoothie that’s jam-packed with nutrients like vitamin C, mineral-rich greens, and tastes delicious to boot. Enjoy this immune-supportive smoothie any time of day.

I’ve been on an orange juice kick for the past few weeks. I haven’t bought juice in years because I always felt that it was too sugary, but one day last month I was absolutely craving a cold glass of orange juice and I decided I was done with that food rule! I made sure to pick some up the next time I went grocery shopping and since then I’ve been enjoying a glass every once in a while, including in this smoothie.
I’m not always a big smoothie drinker this time of year. But between my creamy Banana Cinnamon Smoothie and this super fresh, zesty green goodness I’ve actually been whipping them up a few times a week.
This smoothie has a really fresh, bright, and zesty flavour from the ginger and orange. It’s packed with vitamin C and is the perfect immune-supporting blend this time of year.
How to Make a Zesty Green Smoothie
This recipe is actually really simple. All you need is:
- banana
- frozen pineapple
- fresh ginger
- baby spinach, kale, and/or chard (I buy a fresh package of these 3 greens mixed together)
- 100% orange juice, not from concentrate
- chia seeds
- water
- ice
The orange juice is what really helps add that nice zingy flavour we all love from citrus fruits. Combined with ginger and pineapple, this smoothie has such a satisfying fresh flavour that reminds me of all the lively fruits and veggies I enjoy in the summer. If you’re unsure of how all the greens taste in this recipe, you won’t even notice ’em! I always feel so energized after drinking this!
That being said, this smoothie is a touch on the sweeter side. You can either enjoy this in one regular-sized serving, split it up between you and your partner or kids (or store extra in the fridge for later), or just use a little less orange juice. Usually I make this smoothie and split it up between myself and Sean.
Alternatively, if you wish to use a fresh whole orange instead of orange juice, that would work too.
