I’ve made so many smoothies over the years and there are countless ways to make them, but I still get into a rut every once in a while. Which fruits should I use? Do I want a mixed berry smoothie? Strawberry? Banana and peanut butter? Chocolate? Tropical? One loaded with greens?

This Blueberry Cardamom Smoothie is great for when you want something totally different. It’s a great smoothie for wintertime with the warming cardamom spice, the real start of the show here! Cardamom is made from seed pods in the ginger family. It’s hard to describe its flavour, but it’s a main ingredient in chai spice, if that helps!

Oh, and can we take a moment to appreciate the rich purple colour of this smoothie?! It’s a real beauty, this one. That colour is thanks to the anthocyanins found in blueberries, antioxidant-rich pigments (like black, red, and blue) that have a multitude of health benefits. They’re anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial, as well as help to support cardiovascular heath.
