Berry Crumble

Gooey berries with a crisp oat topping makes this Berry Crumble the perfect dessert for sharing with friends or enjoying with family.

When I was younger I loved making a batch of my mom's apple crisp. Crumbles have gotta be one of my favourite kinds of desserts. That oat, butter, brown sugar combo...? Too good.

In recent years I realized I could sub apples for basically any other fruit (not that there's anything wrong with using apples!) just to switch things up. And of all the options, mixed berries have got to be the ooiest and gooiest and most tasty. Their natural sweet + tart flavours make this recipe so darn good.

How to Make Berry Crumble

All you need for making this recipe is:

It's really simple to make and is definitely a crowd pleaser! A perfect dessert for entertaining or bringing to your next holiday event (or making during a regular weekday just because).

Berry Crumble

A gooey berry filling with a crisp oat topping
Servings: 6

For the filling

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

For the topping

  • 1 cup quick oats

  • 1/2 cup oat flour (if gluten-free) or spelt flour

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter or coconut oil, softened

  • pinch sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.

  2. Add berries to oven safe dish and set aside. If some berries are too large, such as whole strawberries, slice before adding.NOTE: I use a smaller 7x9 dish. If you have a much larger dish, you may want to double this recipe.

  3. In medium sized bowl, mix together oats, flour, sugar, and sea salt.

  4. Add in softened butter and in pressing motions, mix until the butter helps to form a beady, chunky texture. This can take a few minutes! Avoid trying to combine it like a cookie dough or muffin batter; instead allow it to remain chunky. *If mixture is too dry, add an extra spoonful of butter. If mixture is too soft, add an extra spoonful of flour or oats.

  5. Add mixture on top of berries in dish and press down gently.

  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the berries are bubbling away.

  7. Let cool and serve!
