Chocolate Hemp Milk

by | Aug 30, 2018 | Beverages

Made with only 4 ingredients, this dairy-free Chocolate Hemp Milk is creamy, protein-rich, and full of healthy fats. I love making this in the afternoon for a quick and easy chocolatey pick-me-up.

Non-dairy milks have become pretty popular in recent years. From the rise of dairy intolerance to even just preference, nut and seed milks like Almond Milk are household favourites.

One seed that I’m particularly fond of is though is hemp. Hemp seeds contain omega-3 fats which are essential for healthy brain, skin, joints, and combating inflammation. They’re also great for providing a boost of complete protein (meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids). In my opinion, they’re a pantry staple.

I almost always add a large spoonful to my morning smoothies. I especially love them because they blend up so easily, which makes them perfect for this Chocolate Hemp Milk!

How to Make Chocolate Hemp Milk

This Chocolate Hemp Milk is a great alternative to store-bought chocolate milk which usually contains a lot of added sugar and often flavour. This Chocolate Hemp Milk requires just 4 ingredients:

Unlike other nut milks that require soaking and straining, hemp seeds are soft, don’t require soaking, and generally don’t require any straining depending on your blender. However, this recipe will leave some sediment at the bottom, so feel free to pour through a cheesecloth first or simply give it a shake before drinking.

To make, simply add all ingredients to your blender and blend on high for a about 30 seconds until smooth.

You can use whichever sweetener you prefer. I usually use maple syrup, but honey or 2-3 pitted dates will work wonderfully also. Medjool are my favourite. To prevent date clumps, I recommend soaking them in warm water for 5-10 minutes and straining to let them soften, before blending.
